FOOD AND DRINK

A wide array of restaurants and cafes provide quality meals and drinks and are very good value.  For instance meals start at around 6 leva (£3) and a large bottle of beer will cost around 1.8 Leva (less than £1).  A large snack (from one of the many seafront stalls) such as a salad, jacket potato, hamburger, hotdog, chips, pancake, cheese on toast, pizza (all with toppings) will cost around 5 Leva.  (100 stotinki = 1 Lev).  1 Lev = 50p. approx.  All nationalities tastes are catered for including European, Chinese & Indian cuisine. Restaurants which are highly recommended for ambience, cuisine and excellent prices are The Condor and The Faro (looks like a lighthouse) on the main road near to the bus station.  The Tanya Restaurant and The Flower Pub (on the street opposite Disco Orange) are also popular and welcoming, the latter having an excellent resident singer guitar player.

Local specialities ~ include Shopska salad sprinkled with ‘Sirene’ (Bulgarian cheese).  Kyopoolu is a starter made from aubergines, peppers and garlic and Kavarna is a local and very tasty meat and vegetable stew.

Rakia  ~ is a strong local spirit usually made from grapes and there is a wide variety of red and white Bulgarian wines to try.

Fish ~ enjoy a romantic meal overlooking the bay at the superb harbour restaurants in Old Nessebur.
